After a while of tinkering with Jaunty, Wine, and IES4Linux, I finally discovered what was wrong. First if you follow these directions it will install IE6. However, my problem was that I get a “permission denied” error on creating a symbolic link into my home/bin folder. IE6 is actually all there, its in your home folder under .ies4linux/bin. Simply create your own shortcut to this executable and you’re done!

May 08, 2009Hm forgot you were on linux, microsoft vpc is windows only, but vmware has a free conversion tool, to change the vpc to a vmware machine, you you could then use the free vmwareplayer on linux to run the ie6 image.
I wonder if anyone has tried it yet..

May 08, 2009Yeah I took a look at the link you gave me. There’s a ie6,7, and 8. I def like that solution. I’m looking into how to do a conversion as I do use vmware as well as virtualbox

May 11, 2009http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/
this app does it, it’s free from vmware
I started the conversion but it was going to take 2-3 hours to complete. since i was only doing it for fun at work i decided to do something more productive ;)

May 12, 2009Haha. I’ve got windows/vmware at work ubuntu/virtualbox at home. I’ve now got the converter installed at work, so next is to do some converting! 2-3 hours doesn’t sound too fun tho..
